The Sigg Swiss Cross 1.0 L (33 oz) water bottle is part of Sigg’s Lifestyle Series of water bottles. These bottles are manufactured from a single piece of aluminum and are designed to perform in various extreme outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking and backpacking. Sigg bottles are BPA-Free, crack resistant, and can be reused indefinitely. The bottle as tested was metallic red.
Upon receiving this bottle, I immediately noticed the durability of this lightweight product. Manufactured from a single piece of aluminum, the Sigg bottles are tough enough for the most extreme outdoor adventurer, yet light enough not to weigh you down.
Upon opening the bottle, I noticed the lack of the chemical smell usually found in plastic bottles. The aluminum shell was aesthetically pleasing as well as very rigid. I soon put the bottle into use on various day hikes in Ireland, UK, climbing trips in Northern Arkansas and Southwest Missouri, as well as general day-to-day use.
The bottle maintained a uniform shape throughout many days of rigorous use shoved in my backpack. The bottle neither scratched nor dented throughout all types of use. During warmer conditions, I found the bottle kept cool, even when I was involved in heavy outdoor aerobic activities. The only time this bottle showed signs of warming was after hours of use in hot/sunny conditions. The cap has an attachment loop to which I attached a carabineer to secure the bottle to my backpack for vigorous hikes.
After use, I hand-washed the bottle and cap with warm, soapy water and let air dry. I would not recommend using a dishwasher for cleaning as the bottle’s opening is very small and the inside would not be properly sanitized/cleaned.
The main concern with this bottle is the cap and seal. While remaining watertight while tightly closed, the ribbed seal collected water which spilled when opening the bottle. The amount of water was minimal, but definitely noticeable if planning for your hands to stay dry. The bottle’s cap was completely removable and could easily be misplaced.
I will continue to use this bottle as my main outdoor/everyday bottle to store water in all conditions, especially in sunny, warm environments. This bottle performs well, does not overheat, and is very lightweight and durable. At a cost of $24.99, this bottle is an excellent choice.
