Our History
The area of Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, commonly referred to as “The Ozarks”, is an area of land that covers some 47,000 square miles. This area is by far the most extensive mountainous region between the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. This expansive area is known for its limestone bluffs, steep terrain, crystal clear streams, numerous caves and heavily forested areas. These features make this area a “Mecca” for outdoor activities and adventure.
Having a love affair with the outdoors since childhood and spending a large amount of my adult life in the outdoors, I wanted to develop a site that would encompass in one place, knowledge from experts and amateurs alike, in a variety of disciplines for everyone to use. With this concept in mind, Hiking the Ozarks was created and dedicated to the personal growth and enjoyment of everyone who enjoys the outdoors. The goal of this site is to bring like-minded outdoor enthusiasts together and to educate in the disciplines of backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, trekking, mountaineering and orienteering. With the help of many, we are continuing to strive to provide the best outdoor education, gear reviews, guide services, and basic outdoor knowledge anywhere and will continue to improve upon our legacy for the future.
