HIKING GUIDE CERTIFICATION

Join Hiking the Ozarks Founder, Dan Nash, and co-founder of the American Hiking Guides Association, for this two day program:

DAY 1, 9 - 5pm: Classroom lecture including topics such as group management, leadership, survival skills, wilderness medicine, land navigation, animal safety, food preparation, Leave No Trace Ethics, gear selection and use, permits, physical fitness and other topics. Students will sit for a written exam in the afternoon of Day 1. Each student must score at least 70% to move on to Day 2.

STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A 250-PAGE ELECTRONIC MANUAL WHICH WILL BE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS IN ADVANCE OF THE CLASS TO STUDY IT. (MANUAL WILL BE SENT TO STUDENTS WHEN THE COURSE FEE IS PAID.)

DAY 2, 9 - 4pm: Practical exercises graded on a pass/fail basis. Students are required to pass all practicals.

Assuming you pass all of the Day 1 and Day 2 requirements, you can submit your paperwork and pre-requisite training evidence to the AHGA for your certification. If you fail to complete each one of the practicals, you will not pass the certification program and be asked to take the class again in the future.

The Hiking Guide Certification is suitable for guiding day trips and is a prerequisite for the Mountain Leader Training Program.

PREREQUISITES: Wilderness Survival, Land Navigation, Gear + Equipment, Wilderness First Aid and a CPR certification (which you can get from a number of providers -- we do not provide the CPR certification). You may sign up for this class even if you have not yet taken your prerequisite courses, but plan to complete them prior to the date of this certification program.

REGISTRATION FEE: $275

LOCATION: CHADWICK, MO on private land (precise location will be provided following registration).
